This is an unmounted print of an aquatint engraving entitled ‘Reapers’ and shows a harvest scene. The foreground shows several figures – a young man holding a scythe talking to a woman sitting under a tree with a baby on her lap and a little girl at her knee; another young man holding a sheaf of wheat talking to a young woman who ties the sheaf. In the background, there are several reapers at work in the fields, watched by a man on horseback. The picture was painted by Richard Westall (1765–1836) in 1797 and engraved by Robert Mitchell Meadows. It was published by Westall in 1805. An inscription on the picture dedicates it to the Right Honourable Jane Elizabeth, Countess of Oxford.
