Arkeologisk schaktningsövervakning, Löts kyrka. Löts socken Uppland 2016

View through Europeana Collections
In connection with the excavation work for the closure of new ringleaders to the thunderstorm at Löt’s Church in Uppland, Upplandsmuseet’s department Archaeology carried out an archaeological excavation monitoring on 20-21 June 2016. The work took place after a decision of the County Administrative Board in Uppsala County. The County Council had assessed in the decision that the area connected to the church and belfry of Löt was to be regarded as ancient, as older remains could be expected to emerge in the course of the work. The shaft around the church building was dug about 0.3-1.2 m wide and 0.3-0.5 m deep. The main part of the shaft was laid in grassy areas apart from the stretch along the western and eastern gable where it was dug in the gravel pit. The shake did not run in older graves and only single human bones were found likely to come from previously unexcavated soil masses. At the south side of the grave choir there was a concentration of lime mills and brick mills. To the west of this concentration a larger rock was found, about 0.4 m in size. It is likely that both the stone and the lime mill and brick crusher are derived from the demolished house of arms.
