Real problems exist in society and these problems manifest themselves in the classroom. The effects of depression, anxiety, economic stresses, divorce, poverty, racism, drug abuse, and alcoholism can all be found in the school setting. In addition to teaching students in reading, writing, and arithmetic, educators need skills to better help students get along with others, solve problems, and deal with emotions. These are key aspects of social emotional learning (SEL).Social/Emotional Learning and Servant Leadership: True Stories from the Classroomshares real school experiences from varied and unique perspectives. The authors begin by investigating how to prepare future and current teachers to teach social emotional learning. They then proceed to share true stories through the lens of teachers, parents, administrators, and students.
