Jäger, Anna: Porträt Marie von Bunsen

Intimate breast image to the semi-left that reflects the elegance and self-consciousness of the depicted. With a slight inclination of the head towards the observer, her gaze is directed directly towards the observer. Marie von Bunsen (1860-1914) was the daughter of the liberal parliamentarian Georg von Bunsen and his English wife Emma, born. Birkbeck of Keswick. She became a watercolor artist, essayist, rice writer and author of exceptionally analytical memoirs. In Berlin she was a well-known salon lady, whose Sunday breakfast around 1900 Harry Graf Kessler or Alfred Lichtwark also stopped by. In 1897, when the effigy arose, she was 37 years old. The artist Anna Jaeger (pseudonym for Angelica Bihan) (1849-before 1906), student of the Düsseldorf Academy, came from the Rhineland, but lived in Berlin since 1893/94 as a portrait and genre painter. She was a student Franz Skarbinas. Old stock of the Berlin Museum. Marked on the backside of the wedge frame “Anna Jaeger/Berlin 1897,” as well as a sticker "Bildnis: Marie von Bunsen/Beby Anna Jaeger/Berlin 1897/from the possession of Marie von Bunsen."
