Estética, política y sensación de la muerte en Salón de belleza de Mario Bellatin

The site of the events in Salon de belleza (Beauty Salon), by Mario Bellatin undergoes two different manifestations: in an earlier time that precedes de narrative, it was a beauty salon, an aesthetic place; then it is transformed into a “moridero,” where patients afflicted with a deadly disease find their final resting place. Prevalent critical approach to this text insist in contrasting either tacitly or explicitly the two phases of this site, underscoring the banality of the beauty salon vis-à-vis the solemnity of the “moridero.” Delgado’s reading, however, seeks to establish a continuity between them to show how the anti-nominal staging of the story allows for a more politically incisive notion of the concept of aesthetics.
