Fan of paper and silk, girl and vines, designed by George Barbier, Paris, France, 1911. Decorated fan of printed and hand-coloured paper and painted silk. The sticks and guards are of bone with painted decoration of grapes and butterflies. The rivet and cord loop are of yellow metal, and the cord and tassels are of various coloured silk threads twisted together. When folded the leaf projects beyond the guards in a series of zig-zags.;Paper leaf of palmette shape. The entire leaf has a hand-printed or painted surface simulating kid leather. It shows a girl in oriental dress standing beside a basket of grapes. The leaf is framed by a grape vine and other plants. Gilt painted butterflies are scattered across the leaf. ;Maroon silk painted with gilt stars.
