Plate
View through Europeana Collections
The popularity of Kakiemon motifs ensured that they were copied well into the 18th century, both in China and in Europe – at Meissen in Germany, Chantilly in France, and Chelsea (now a borough of London) in England. The painters of this English plate carefully imitated an
example of Kakiemon porcelain, although the delineation is somewhat stiff. The plate’s composition and form clearly reveal its European origin.
