Maconochie And Norfolk Island After 1844
View through CrossRef
Abstract
Of those who figure in this story, only Alexander Maconochie, Mary Maconochie, Mary Ann Maconochie, Catherine Maconochie, Edward Hill, Sir George Gipps, Bony, and Burns were ever in fact on Norfolk Island between 1840 and 1844. The Ring was also there, but its membership is unknown. To my knowledge, there was no convict named Patrick Burke on Norfolk Island, nor a Mick Salmon, nor a David Ankers, nor a Staff Sergeant Westwood. There was, however, a piano teacher whose affair with Mary Ann led to her being sent to England.
