Effetto Poe

Effetto Poe is an essay on comparative literature dedicated to the great success that Edgar Allan Poe gained in Italy from the moment the translation of his works reached the Turin bookshops in 1857 until the mid-twentieth century. The volume re-enacts the history of a long and complex assimilation, analysing the relationship that some thirty Italian writers had with the work of Poe, considered as readers, translators, critics or imitators. Baccio Emanuele Maineri, Igino Ugo Tarchetti, Emilio Cecchi, Giovanni Papini, Tommaso Landolfi, Dino Buzzati, Ennio Flaiano are just some of the authors representing the Italian nocturnal side that grew up in the shadow of the American master's nightmares.
