View through CrossRef
Mahesh Dattani is a modern Indian playwright who is well-known for confronting the complexities of Indian culture. The issues of social awareness that are present in the plays that he has chosen are discussed here. The plays of Dattani, which are often distinguished by their daring portrayal of forbidden issues, provide a challenge to the conventions of society and investigate the underlying currents of gender, sexuality, and the dynamics of communities. The examination focuses on plays such as "Bravely Fought the Queen," "Dance Like a Man," and "Night Queen," each of which provides a distinctive viewpoint on the challenges that excluded groups confront within the context of a conservative social framework. The purpose of this study is to investigate the narrative tactics and character development used by Dattani. It reveals how these aspects help to engage and challenge the audience, so fostering a greater knowledge of the social concerns that are currently being discussed. The purpose of this research is to emphasize Dattani's contributions to Indian theater as well as his role in pushing for social change via art. This is accomplished by analyzing Dattani's representation of tensions that result from the contradiction between traditional ideals and contemporary desires
