Kundan meena earrings. Diamond fragments (polki) and cut garnet set in 22-carat setting, finished with a ribbon of pure gold (kundan). Back enameled (meenakari).‖ The significance of jewelry in India, from the perspective of tradition, is important and complex. One of the most important meanings lay in the intrinsic value, one literally carries his wealth with him. The woman is given the dowry (stridhan) on her marriage. According to the Manusmriti, the oldest known Hindu treatise on social law, a woman's jewellery belongs to her stridhan, her only legal and irrevocable possession in the form of jewellery. It is her only insurance for economically difficult times. However, wearing jewellery is intertwined with the entire life cycle and many positive, protective and auspicious powers are attributed to it.‖ Kundan (literally 24-karat, or pure gold) minakari (enamelling) or kundan mina jewellery has a setting of 22-karat gold, but the gemstones are set in a bed of 24-karat gold ribbon. Kundan jewelry is often set with ruby, emerald, sapphire and diamond, also called polki (diamond fragments). The gemstones are set in front of a smoothed strip of silver paper. The reverse side is enamelled. If the reverse side is not enamelled, it is referred to as kundan jewellery or kundan jadau jewellery.Cit.
