Nakamura Matsue as Mrs. Komume

The left part of the diptych (other part not in the MAK) Shunshosai Hokuchōga linlinlinlinlinNakamura Matsue III (様様文様, 1786-1855) as a comroom in the Kabuki play “Suda no haru geisha katagi (linlinlinlinlinlinlin),” performed in the Naka-Theater in Ōsaka in the 9th month of 1828. The story of this piece is based on a true story and became the basis of several pieces of Kabuki and Bunraku. The play is about robbery, love and murder. Nakamura Matsue plays Komume, the wife of Yoshibei, who is supposed to bring back a stolen treasure. Yoshibei kills Chōkichi, his wife’s brother, without knowing who he killed. The right-hand part of the diptych shows Nakamura Utaemon III Der 文中 Der Der 様 as Ume no Yoshibei and Nakamura Gencho I as Hinin Doburoku. Nakamura Matsue III, also known as Nakamura Tomijurō II 様文中 N様 NNNN, was a very well-known female actor (on 'nagata N・様) in the Kabuki theaters of Ōsaka and Kyōto. The paper is concealed.
