HÄNGVAS, a couple. The vases are designed as sacks with laces around the necks. They are flat at the rear and have holes for suspension. The inside of the neck and the back are painted in turtle. The front has a background pattern with dense, dark pink loops on a brighter pink foundation, with a pair of five-membered dragons facing a medallion bearing the sign for “long life.” Behind and below the dragons there is a stylized lotus loop. Although not of absolute primary quality, the enamel painting has been carried out with care and precision. The style, the imperial stamp and the contents of the decorations suggest that the porcelain was made during the late Qianlong,. The very finest estate of this kind from the early QianlongDet is found in the imperial collections in Taipei and Beijing. They have underglazed blue marks, while these vases have an imperial mark in overglazed red enamel.
