Frans Albert Larsson (Larson), a teacher of veils, sculptor and visual artist, born 6 August 1894 on Syltenäs, Myckleby parish on Orust, died 22 July 1957 in Skara. The father was the sea captain.
Frans Larson studied as a veil teacher at Nääs veil teacher seminar, Floda. In addition to a few shorter courses at the Swedish SlujdFörutom den school in Gothenburg, he was an autodidact as an artist. He is described as an apprentice. He painted oil paintings in a naive style, sculpted in wood that he also painted. A large number of frames for artist friends paintings he has made.
He was active in Bohuslän, but also lived in Skara where he served as a teacher of sling at Skara. He then lived on the second floor of the so-called Bladhska House.
In the youth, he was at sea for a period.
Frans Larson was the older brother of David Larsson, who is one of the Gothenburg schoolorists.
Quoted from God Konst, Gothenburg, Spring Winter 1946:
A few years ago when I first met Frans Larson’s painting in Skara, it became a rich and unexpected experience for me. Unexpected because I never seen anything from him and because I didn’t expect to find in Skara, where Frans Larson resides, an artist of such considerable content There were also not many who knew him.
Frans Larson is a still man, who lives a withdrawal and lonely life. The art is for him a complement to the daily teaching act - he is a teacher of veils at the Swedish school. But it is also more than a complement. It is a source, from which he derives power, a place of refuge away from everyday one-handed, a flowering garden, a world, which is his own, where his imagination, his dreams and his colours can go on adventures and free flower. His painting is completely burst out of an inner state of emergency. From the thoughts of loneliness, his painting has been born. It has not been accomplished in a large, precious studio. At a small table in a gable room in Skara, these jewelry has been conjured up. In long, solitary evenings, he has let the paint burst over paper and pieces of cardboard with no other intention than to fill his world with the shimmer of colour. In a coffin he has seen 'n kept what he painted. To be involved, when this coffin opens is like witnessing a fairytale wonder.
When all these sparkling smells are thrown out on tables, chairs and floors, you think that the room is climbed with precious stones, gold and side fabrics. It’s a feeri. And as a feeri is the art of Frans Larson himself. A feeri he escapes to the mercy of everyday lunches, away hourly, loneliness, ill health and all the worries of life.
