Bau der Hauptsperre des Bodewerks

View through Europeana Collections
Rappbodetalsperre is the largest dam in the resin. The main barrier consists of a straight heavyweight wall that, by its own weight, blocks the river. In the picture of Paul Betyna the dam is still under construction. The picture, which bears historical testimony, was created in 1957. In 1959 the building, which is 106 m high and 415 m long, was completed. The jammed water serves as a drinking water reserve. Paul Betyna was born in 1887 in Bromberg (near Berlin) and died in 1967 in Wernigerode. He graduated from the Paris Academy and Berlin, where he worked until 1943. Due to the bombardment in the Second World War it swallowed him to Wernigerode. He was a freelance artist and landscape painter. (Wernigerode Harz Museum)
