In the Elamite civilization, theteppirwas an official who held a high position in the judicial system during the Old and Middle Elamite periods. In the Neo‐Elamite and certainly the Achaemenid periods, the word became the indication for a scribe writing in non‐cuneiform writing systems (alphabetic and hieroglyphic scripts). The lexeme is a derivation from the Elamite roottep(i)‐ “to form.”
