Goblet and case of the Nieuwer Amstel Dike-reeves Board

This glass belonged to the heemraadschap (board of dike-reeves) of Nieuwer Amstel (now Amstelveen), near Amsterdam. The dike-reeve and board members regularly inspected the dikes in their district. These inspections concluded with a dinner, at which the goblet was removed from its case and used to toast the success of the inspection and the future of the board.
