L’article aborde le cinéma afro-brésilien à partir de l’expérience de Jeferson De, un réalisateur brésilien, qui participe à l’essor de la production cinématographique brésilienne, nommée Retomada (reprise), qui débute en 1995. Dans les dernières années, un nombre de projets de financement pour le cinéma avait pour objectif de diversifier la production brésilienne de façon à promouvoir la pluralité thématique, régionale et raciale peu visible au cours de l’histoire de l’audiovisuel brésilien. Jeferson De est l’un des représentants de cette cinématographie, dont le film Bróder exprime la maturation du réalisateur avec l’élaboration de son style d’auteur.
