International Space Law in the New Space Era

View through CrossRef
Abstract International Space Law in the New Space Era: Principles and Challenges addresses the international legal and regulatory aspects of outer space that still govern the current developments. This book covers five United Nations space treaties along with soft laws and policies. Though there are recent attempts to undo the foundations of international space law to promote commercialization, the principles of international space law continue to exist as strongly as they existed before the beginning of space commercialization. Hence, understanding those foundations of international space law in the right sense and respecting them becomes essential for ensuring a sustainable future for all in outer space. The chapters of this book have been diversified in such a way that the book can cover the entire gamut of international space law in a nutshell. The inadequacies of international space law in light of the current developments (such as space commercialization, space tourism, space mining etc) are covered in each chapter. The holistic and comprehensive structure of this book provides an easy approach to understanding international space law, as close attention is also paid to the selection of contributors and sub-structures of the chapters. Each contributor is an established expert in the domain of space law, having a unique vision and approach to space law. The traditional understanding of international space law and visualizing it from the perspective of current developments can only be undertaken by such established scholars. This volume will act as a reference book for a variety of audiences consisting of students, researchers, scholars, academicians, policymakers, and practitioners. The book can also be referred to by the people within the space industry as well as by individuals who wish to learn about the regulations of outer space.
