A Handbook on Reproductive Ethics faces many challenging tasks: choosing topics, selecting contributors, addressing nearly constant changes in reproductive technologies, and ensuring that contributions are of high quality. From abortion to surrogate parenthood, fetal tissue research to assisted reproduction, and parental rights to concomitant responsibilities, reproduction raises some of the most fundamentally divisive issues of our time. This introduction to the volume provides an overview of the political and moral theories underlying reproductive ethics, accounts of the status of the fetus, the roles and responsibilities of parents and professionals, and the variety of emerging reproductive issues to come.
