Værkdatering: Ca. 1820-21 Traditionel datering baseret på kunstnerens arbejde med oliestudier i det frie i Napolis omegn i 1820-21 i selskab med J.C. Dahl. Stefano Tumidei daterer (i Paysages d'Italie, 2001) af stilistiske grunde maleriet til anden halvdel af 1820'erne, også med henvisning til, at maleriets første ejer Johan Bravo ankom til Rom i 1826 [rent faktisk i 1827]. Andreas Stolzenburg (2015) støtter den traditionelle datering, dvs. 1820-21.
