Four chairs
View through Europeana Collections
The shape of these chairs was common in the Neo-classical period in the Netherlands. At that time, it was usual for the decoration to be carved on the chair. In the case of these four chairs, however, the decora-tion is carried out in marquetry. This suggests that they were not made by a chairmaker, but rather by a cabinetmaker, who usually made cabinets, com-modes and other such furniture.
