Abstract The Andromache is an interesting text with which to explore Euripides’ handling of the gods. Such plays as the Hippolytus or Heracles are more commonly used sources for this discussion, yet the Andromache raises questions about divine vengeance and justice which are no less searching and no less profound. Study of a less obvious text, one of Euripides’ ‘problem’ plays, may be of value in so far as it addresses the issues from a less familiar perspective.
