CVT AND RETARDER FOR TRUCKS

View through CrossRef
This paper presents a description of the variator’s design and operating principle which can be used to transmit torque and to slow down the shaft rotation speed. It will be expedient to use the proposed mechanical retarder to operate vehicles (mainly trucks and buses, as well as trains) in mountains on long descents. The article describes in detail the design of the proposed variator and retarder for trucks. The currently existing hydraulic and electromagnetic retarders have a significant drawback – they overheat during operation. The problem can be solved via a new technology when a mechanical retarder creates a braking torque by creating a gyroscopic moment on a rotating disk. The new technology allows the truck to brake without heating the retarder, so there is no cooling radiator in its design. The advantages of the described variator design are the ability to regulate the driven shaft rotation speed depending on the driven shaft resistive torque value, high efficiency of the device, low heat losses, as well as high reliability and durability of the device.

Title: CVT AND RETARDER FOR TRUCKS
