Lekythos.

View through Europeana Collections
Lekythos with outturned broad lip, narrow neck sloping towards flat shoulders. Long narrow body sloping towards flat base. The base is profiled and has a depression underneath. Broad bandhandle from shoulder folded in to base of neck. The interior of lip and exterior are black apart from being reserved on top of lip. Shoulder has two ray designs. Body has a figured scene framed by a dotted band and a broad black band. The lower part is black as is the upper part of the flat base. Profiled part of base is black. The figured scene is very rudimentary sketched and shows possibly four women all shown with added white on face and arms. To the right is a woman on a stool lifting up one arm. Then a woman reclining on a couch on which a third woman also is sitting playing on a lyre. To the left is a fourth woman on a stool holding something in her hands, possibly a tambourine. Behind the women from left to right is a long branch of what should be wine.
