Abstract Selinous, a Greek colony on the southern coast of Sicily, was founded by Megara Hyblaea (in 627 BCE : Thuc. 6.4.1–2; in 650 BCE : Diod. Sic. 13.59.4): the first generation of colonists occupied the entire urban area, and in a short time the Polis extended its boundaries from the Mazaro River ( Emporion : Diod. Sic. 11.86.2) to Minoa ( apoikia of Selinous: Hdt. 5.46.2).
