Crisis of status: Vyatka region in the late 1920s‑mid‑1930s

В статье рассказывается о переломном времени в истории Вятского края – периоде 1929–1936 гг., когда произошли ликвидация Вятской губернии и последующее возрождение самостоятельности региона в форме Кировского края. На основе архивных материалов г. Кирова и г. Екатеринбурга и периодики тех лет автор освещает влияние убийства партийного деятеля С. М. Кирова (1886–1934) и переименования г. Вятки на административно‑территориальные процессы в регионе. В статье раскрываются основные вехи истории Кировского края 1935–1936 гг.: управленческое, экономическое и социокультурное развитие региона в условиях территориальных трансформаций и непростой политической обстановки в стране. Отдельное внимание в тексте уделено биографии первого и единственного руководителя Кировского края – А. Я. Столяра (1901–1938).
The article describes the crisis period in the history of the Vyatka region – 1929–1936, when the liquidation of the Vyatka province occurred and the subsequent revival of the region’s independence in the form of the Kirov region. Based on the archive materials of Kirov and Yekaterinburg, as well as on newspaper publications of those years, the author reveals the influence of the murder of party leader S.M. Kirov (1886–1934) and the renaming of Vyatka into territorial division processes in the region. The text contains the main milestones in the history of the Kirov region, 1935–1936: the political, economic, and socio‑cultural development of the region in the context of territorial transformations and the difficult political situation in the USSR. Special attention is paid in the article to the biography of the first and only leader of the Kirov region – Abram Stolyar (1901–1938).
