Press of the Weimar Republic on Anti-Semitism (1919–1923)

The article examines issues related to the role of the Weimar German press in the analysis of the development of anti-Semitism in the early years of the Weimar Republic. The content of articles not only in the German Jewish press of Weimar Germany is analyzed, but also in the assessment of central periodicals on the development of anti-Semitic propaganda and the activities of various anti-Semitic groups and parties in the spread of anti-Jewish sentiment in German society in the 1918 - 1923. In addition, the article examines the development of anti-Semitism in the period of 1918-1923, when the social and political situation in Germany was in deep crisis. Based on press materials, one can trace not only the attitude of the German population towards anti-Semitism as an everyday phenomenon in the public life of the country, but also the attitude of government circles towards this problem. The article pays attention to the issues of emigration of Eastern European Jews in connection with the development of anti-Semitism in Weimar Germany and the position of not only central periodicals on this problem, but also the position of the German Jewish press in covering the situation related to the emigration of Eastern European Jews. Newspaper articles of this period point to the reasons for the development of anti-Semitism in the early years of the Weimar Republic, as well as to the peculiarities of the situation in German society. As a result of familiarization with the press materials of Weimar Germany of the mentioned period, we can conclude that the development of anti-Semitism in the first years of the Weimar Republic was facilitated by the deep economic, political and social crisis that arose in Germany after its defeat in the First World War.
