The PhD thesis THE FORM IN RICHARD NEUTRA'S RESIDENTIAL ARCHITECTURE. 1950-1965, investigates the maturity of the professional career of the architect Richard Neutra (1892-1970) focusing on the single-family house. From the extensive bibliographic documentation of the architect, the research focus on a period of his architectural production in which he is intensely dedicated to residential architecture. The research examines the relationship between the structure and the formal conception of the residential project, confirming the importance of technique in the design process. Formal coherence and structural logic define Neutra's modern project that adapts to the needs of the clients and the characteristics of the site. The asymmetrical plants and fluid modern matrix distributions illustrate Neutra's spatial dynamism and commitment to the individuality of its inhabitants. A dynamic and expansive principle governs the composition of the residential project that projects the home into the landscape. Neutra identifies the environmental qualities of the site, the characteristics of the context and of the tradition, and evaluates the incidence of natural factors in the project to provide the best environmental conditions for users. Contextualized in Richard Neutra's trajectory and arranged chronologically, 67 single-family houses are analyzed, examining the functional demands, the site conditions and the coherence between form, construction system and materiality. Methodologically, the research starts from the digital reconstruction of the project, confirming formal logic and structural understanding, reflecting the consistency of the modular approach as an instrument of economy and formal rigor. The linear gantry system is transformed into a structural framework that combines load-bearing wall bays and adapts to the strict orthogonal frame. The axonometric perspective examines the constructive sequence of the project, identifying the implantation mechanisms in the terrain, the structural system and the autonomy and specialization of the construction components. The three-dimensional reconstruction also illustrates the techniques of assembly and constructive articulation of the specialized components that express the material condition of the construction and the aesthetic refinement of the modern project. The logic of construction establishes the order of the space and characterizes the interaction with the environment. The wide overhangs underline the spatial continuity of the domestic project and establish a sequence of intermediate spaces. The coherence of the formal logic of the project orders the architectures of connection and the transitions between spaces try to enrich the sensory experience of the inhabitants. Through the analysis of Richard Neutra's domestic project, the constants of the architect in the field of single-family housing are illustrated, underlining the continuities, which allow establishing an analytical taxonomy and a confirmation of the architect's methodical, constructive and formal discipline. La tesis Doctoral LA FORMA EN LA ARQUITECTURA RESIDENCIAL DE RICHARD NEUTRA. 1950-1965, indaga en la madurez de la trayectoria profesional del arquitecto Richard Neutra (1892-1970) centrándose en la vivienda unifamiliar. A partir de la extensa documentación bibliográfica del arquitecto, se profundiza en un período de su producción arquitectónica en la que se dedica intensamente a la arquitectura residencial. La investigación examina la relación entre la estructura resistente y la concepción formal del proyecto residencial constatando la importancia de la técnica en el proceso del proyecto. La coherencia formal y la lógica estructural definen el proyecto moderno de Neutra que se acomoda a las necesidades de los clientes y a las características del emplazamiento. Las asimétricas plantas y las fluidas distribuciones de matriz moderna ilustran el dinamismo espacial y el compromiso de Neutra con la individualidad de sus habitantes. Un principio dinámico y expansivo rige la composición del proyecto residencial que proyecta el habitáculo doméstico al paisaje. Neutra identifica las cualidades medioambientales del sitio, las características del contexto y de la tradición, y evalúa la incidencia de los factores naturales en el proyecto para proporcionar las mejores condiciones ambientales a los usuarios. Contextualizadas en la trayectoria de Richard Neutra y ordenadas cronológicamente, se analizan 67 casas unifamiliares examinando las demandas funcionales, las condiciones del sitio y la coherencia entre forma, sistema constructivo y materialidad. Metodológicamente, la investigación parte de la reconstrucción digital del proyecto constatando la lógica formal y el entendimiento estructural, reflejando la consistencia del planteamiento modular como instrumento de economía y rigor formal. El sistema de pórticos lineales se transforma en un armazón estructural que combina crujías de muros de carga y se adapta a la estricta trama ortogonal. La perspectiva axonométrica examina la secuencia constructiva del proyecto identificando los mecanismos de implantación en el terreno, el sistema estructural y la autonomía y especialización de los componentes de la construcción. La reconstrucción tridimensional ilustra también las técnicas de ensamblaje y articulación constructiva de los componentes especializados que expresan la condición material de la construcción y el refinamiento estético del proyecto moderno. La lógica de la construcción establece el orden del espacio y caracteriza la interacción con el entorno. Los amplios voladizos subrayan la continuidad espacial del proyecto doméstico y establecen una secuencia de espacios intermedios. La coherencia de la lógica formal del proyecto ordena las arquitecturas de conexión y las transiciones entre espacios tratan de enriquecer la experiencia sensitiva de los habitantes. A través del análisis del proyecto doméstico de Richard Neutra se ilustran, subrayando las continuidades, las constantes del arquitecto en el campo de la vivienda unifamiliar que permiten establecer una taxonomía analítica y una constatación de la metódica disciplina constructiva y formal del arquitecto.
