Developments in Southeastern States in 1957
View through CrossRef
ABSTRACT
The southeastern states showed a slight increase in seismic, an increase of more than 150% in gravity-meter exploration, and a slight increase in core-drill activity during 1957. Success ratios for wildcats decreased, as did the total number of wildcats drilled. Adverse weather conditions curtailed drilling activity in 1957. The Florida Peninsula and the Black Warrior Basin had the same number of wells drilled in 1957 as in 1956, 2 in the Florida Peninsula, and 7 in the Black Warrior Basin. However, efforts in the Black Warrior Basin in 1956 resulted in 1 discovery, whereas all 7 attempts resulted in dry holes in 1957. There was a decided increase in oil production in Alabama due to the development of the Citronelle field. Oil and gas production in Florida and Mississippi decreased slightly in 1957 over 1956. The cut in oil production was due to pipeline cuts. The cut in gas jiroduction was probably due to the cut-back in the rate at which the Gwinville field, Jefferson Davis County, Mississippi, was producing. This cut-back was recommended by the Mississipjii Oil and Gas Board.
