Rasch Model

AbstractThe Rasch model is a measurement model providing linear measures derived from an observed sum score across items forming a unidimensional scale. The data analysis allows for empirically assessing whether reponse categories work as intended, whether items are locally independent and whether responses reflect a unidimensional latent variable. The Rasch model can be derived from fundamental principles of measurement, such as invariance. The Rasch philosophy therefore takes precedence over the data, which is in contrast to Classical Test Theory and also to general Item Response Theory models.
