Эта статья посвящена осмыслению места истории в системе научного знания. Она включает в себя небольшое введение о научном наследии Михаила Абрамовича Барга, публикацию фрагмента из его неопубликованной рукописи. Это его предварительные замечания по истории вопроса (той научной дискуссии, которая разгорелась в середине ХХ в. об особенностях исторического знания) к разделу «Закономерности истории как предмет исторической науки». Мы сочли необходимым в Комментариях определить позицию оппонентов на работы которых опирался Барг или с которыми он спорил. В этих небольших по объему размышлениях содержится богатейший материал по определению истории, как научной дисциплины, специфике изучения прошлого, логике исторического познания. И, эти заметки, надеюсь, будут интересны всем, кто обращается к отечественной истории исторической науки.
