BENCH PAD
View through Europeana Collections
Bench pad with upper side woven in the roll cake (plucked in pattern), underside of the beige (unbleached?) linen fabric woven in the lace. In the corners decorations of small cloth patches; printed small patterned cotton, plaid thatch, woolen.
The overhead pattern is a motif repeated four times over the length
Hard stylized lilies compiled into a similar cross (so-called lily cross) inscribed in a rhombus. The ring each rhombus is four S-shapes.
Between the Rombs minor motifs of Romber with four “bones.” Halved pattern motifs stand in as triangles from the long sides between the entire motifs in the middle. The Lily as its main form is, according to the literature, found in Bohusländer, southern Västergötland, western Småland. This pad is likely to be from Bohuslän, probably later in the 1800s.
The colors in the tissue are yellow-toned red, yellow-toned bright red (cut), blue-green, dark and lighter blue and white. The red and cut yarns are probably colored with a crap (strong color). The blue possibly colored with synthetic dye, so-called Parisian blue. If this is the case, the tissue is the earliest from the late 1850s when synthetic dyes came.
UM020848 - UM020851 is found in a large sheet metal box when moving to the new museum in 1983 - 1984. Probably not previously marked. Not recorded in the inventory from the museum in 1934.
Not pale. Small flaws here and were due to previous insect attacks.
