Full assessment: interviewing the patient and autistic phenomenology

View through CrossRef
Chapter 8 sets out methods for directly interviewing the patient and includes questions about school, work, self-care, responsibilities of living with others, and it covers the main criteria of autism. Reference is made to a new systematic approach to interviewing adults about their possible autistic traits, symptoms, and behaviours, taking a phenomenological approach familiar to adult psychiatrists. It covers questions on restricted repetitive behaviours (RRBs) and social communication, insight into difficulties, impaired functioning, understanding of relationships, and bullying experiences. The potential value of this approach to asking direct questions about risk and to comorbidity assessment, covered in Chapter 10 are introduced.
