Professional Ethics in Tour Guiding

Despite the emphasis on the significance of its role in tourist satisfaction, destination image, and the tourism industry, tour guides' labor is often taken for granted, and limited attention has been given to the dynamics of their labor conditions. In this context, a code of ethics defines the rules and principles governing the tour guiding field and establishes the framework in which the tour guiding profession can be practiced to benefit the tourism industry. Therefore, this chapter provides a framework for professional ethics in the tour guiding field and focuses on tour guides' associated practices. Drawing on the author's familiarity with the field, the chapter offers insights into the topic, integrating the findings of previous research. In this regard, the chapter addresses associated issues, challenges and policies within the tour guiding field. Finally, the chapter concludes with discussions, conclusions, and implications for the field and calls for action to establish an ethical tour guiding management system.
