Marie-Madeleine Mervant-Roux est directrice de recherche émérite au CNRS (Centre national de la recherche scientifique), membre du laboratoire THALIM (Théorie et histoire des arts et des littératures de la modernité), unité mixte de recherche sous la triple tutelle du CNRS, de l’ENS (École normale supérieure) et de l’université Sorbonne Nouvelle (Paris 3). Depuis plus de trois décennies, elle mène des recherches sur le théâtre dans le contexte français et a publié, entre autres livres, L’Assise du théâtre : pour une étude du spectateur (CNRS éditions, 1998) et Du théâtre amateur : approche historique et anthropologique (CNRS éditions, 2004).
