Coastal landscape. A sunny, brightly-lit, panoramic view of the coastline. In the foreground on the right of the picture are massive outcrops of weather-beaten rock covered in mosses and lichens. Grass and heather grow all around. A column of rock rises high above the others. Under it are two children: a young blonde barefoot child, dressed in a light blue sweater and brown wide shorts leans against the rock. A young boy, also blonde, sits on a mossy rock. He wears a navy blue sweater and trousers, a straw boater and black boots. They are on the higher level of the cliff, which slopes down sharply in the middle ground to form a second level; beyond this is the actual cliff edge. The curve of the coast starts in the centre middle ground with a peninsula and stacks, and moves round into the foreground. The children look out to sea; just off the coast, and approaching, are three rowing boats. The sea is a light, transparent blue. In the background the waves are breaking on the rocks at the cliff-foot. The line of the horizon is crowded with clouds, and the shape of a lighthouse on rocks is visible on the extreme left.
