As a refugee physicist in 1933, fleeing an intended assassination, Albert Einstein (1879–1955) was staying at a British army camp in secluded, coastal Cromer, en route to America. Epstein traveled to Cromer to sculpt the bust, but because of Einstein's departure for America, it remained a mask.
