From Buddhist Sunday School: The Evaluation of Program Implementation

The purpose of this research is to evaluate the implementation of Buddhist Sunday School Program in Tangerang City, Indonesia. Buddhist Sunday School (BSS) is non-formal education under the guidance of Directorate General for Guidance of Buddhist Society— Ministry of Religious Affairs of Indonesia. This study is an evaluation program using CIPP models by Stufflebeam that consist of Context, Input, Process, Product and combined with Outcome component. The aspect of Context Evaluation is concerning BSS History, Legal Foundation, Compilation of Vision and Mission; The aspect of Input Evaluation is about Curriculum, Teacher Management, BSS Implementation by Teachers, Supervision, Facilities and Infrastructures and Document Rarity; the aspect of Process Evaluation is about Implementation of Learning and documents completeness; The aspect of Product Evaluation is around Result of learning activities and document completeness; the aspect of Outcome Evaluation is Result of learning activities and document completeness. There are seven Vihara mentions: Dhammaphala, Dharmaratna, Dharmasubha, Indraloka, Jetavana, Nimmala, and Punna Sampada. This research was conducted over a period of 13 months, starting from preresearch. Used mix-method, the data obtained through interviews, observations, questionnaires, and document study. Data sources consist of seven chairmen of Buddhist Sunday school program, fourty one teacher, thirty-four parents, focus group discussion, and Buddhist Sunday school documents. The criteria of this evaluation are derived from The Letter of Directorate General for Guidance of Buddhist Society—Ministry of Religious Affairs, about Buddhist Sunday School Guidance Num. DJ.VI/97/SK/2009. The comparison of BSS context evaluation in Tangerang city shows 43% with an adequate category. For Input, the evaluation shows 81% grade with very good result. The Process component of evaluation shows 57% with an adequate result. Evaluation of Buddhist Sunday school’s impact emphasizes on the sustainability of Buddhist practices conducted by the children at home with their parents and in their neighborhood. The program continuing and revised in workshop, sponsored by the Indonesian Endowment Fund for Education scholarship (Lembaga Pengelola Dana Pendidikan/ LPDP)
