The text presents an analytical study of the museological documentation of the Numismatics and Medalistry collection of the Museu Casa de Rui Barbosa (MCRB), with the aim of analyzing the changes in the procedures for recording information and drawing parallels between these changes and the training in Museology of the institution's employees. The research adopted a methodology that included the analysis of inventory books, cataloging cards, notes and the construction of a theoretical framework that explores the specificities of the MCRB documentation, the trajectory of the training of the museum employees in Museology and Numismatics. The theoretical framework is based on the importance of museological documentation for the management and preservation of collections, highlighting the need to record intrinsic information (physical characteristics of the objects) and extrinsic information (historical and social context). The research also addresses the specificities of house museums, where the objects are intrinsically linked to the figure of the patron, in this case, Rui Barbosa, and to the environment that houses them. The partial results indicate that the inventories, cataloging cards and annotations analyzed predominantly focus on intrinsic information about the objects and the classification of the collection. The research suggests that, although the recording methodologies have remained relatively stable over the years, the intentions behind these records may have changed, shifting from a focus on tracking the location and identification of the collection to researching extrinsic information that connects the objects to broader themes related to the figure of Rui Barbosa. The study contributes to the state of the art by highlighting the evolution of museological documentation practices in the context of house museums, and by exploring the influence of training in Museology (of the staff) on the cataloging of collections, especially in the area of Numismatics. The research also highlights the importance of considering both the material characteristics of the objects and their historical and social context.
