View through CrossRef
Abstract
This chapter will explore the general conventions behind the Demotic rendering of Greek names in Ptolemaic and Roman Demotic texts from the Fayum and Lower Egypt. The study is based on the dataset collected through the work on LGPN and aims to update and extend the general rules published in the monograph by Willy Clarysse and Griet Van der Veken, The Eponymous Priests of Ptolemaic Egypt, in 1983. With the emphasis on chronological and geographical changes the objective is to identify all the possible transcriptions of Greek letters and create a tool for researchers working on this material.
