Coin Supply and Longevity of Circulation: Three Case Studies from Hoards in North-West Europe

Chapter 13 examines three case studies: of Neronian aurei in hoards from north-west Europe; of eastern denarii in Britain and Germany; and of Domitianic silver in the north-west of Europe. It uses these to demonstrate the use of hoards to establish coin supply and longevity of circulation, the benefits of consulting both hoards and non-hoarded coin finds from a single area, and why hoard profiles across the Empire should not be merged.
