Quaternary science comprises the multidisciplinary studies focusing on the Quaternary period that covers the last 2.6 million years according to the geological timescale updated in 2009. The Quaternary science studies the processes, impact, and triggering factors of Quaternary environmental changes in all parts of the world using terrestrial and marine evidence. Over the last decades a great amount of knowledge of Quaternary science has become available due to improvements in research methods and its significant role for understanding the trends of global change both during the past and in the future.
