Curiosity and Failure as Gateways to Transpersonal Transformation:
View through CrossRef
The prevailing Western perspective pathologizes failure, fostering dependence on egoic success metrics. In contrast, transpersonal psychology views failure as a necessary descent and a catalyst for postegoic identity formation. This review argues that curiosity and awe are the essential mediators that transform the ego-shattering experience of failure into a catalyst for transpersonal emergence, synthesized through depth, integral, and phenomenological approaches. By integrating contemporary findings from neuroscience and empirical transpersonal research—including the works of Panksepp, Josipovic, and Friedman— this article validates the shift from a "Psychological Ego" to a "Primordial Ego," offering a holistic process for conscious evolution through failure. KEYWORDS: Transpersonal psychology, failure, curiosity, awe, Integral Theory, Triple Loop Learning, Phenomenological Epoché, Neuroscience of Curiosity, Post-Egoic Identity, Self-Expansiveness.
