Effect of phosphorus and potassium application on productivity of greengram (Vigna radiata) under semi-arid conditions of Kandahar, Afghanistan

View through CrossRef
A field experiment was conducted during the summer (AugustNovember) season of 2017 at Kandahar, Afghanistan, to study the effect of phosphorus and potassium levels on growth, yield attributes and yield of greengram [Vigna radiata (L.) R. Wilczek]. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with 10 treatment combinations consisting of 3 phosphorus levels (40, 60 and 80 kg P O /ha), 3 potassium levels (20, 40 2 5 and 60 kg K O/ha) and 1 absolute control. Significantly higher plant height (43.9 cm), dry-matter accumulation 2 (15.7 g/plant), leaf area index (1.70), number of pods/plant (22.9), pod length (7.59 cm), number of seeds/pod (7.97), 1,000-seed weight (47.6 g), grain yield (1.55 t/ha), stover yield (4.01 t/ha) and harvest index (27.80) were recorded under the application of 80 kg P O with 60 kg K O/ha over rest of the treatments . The application of 80 2 5 2 kg P O with 60 kg K O was found better treatments for higher productivity of greengram in semi-arid region of 2 5 2 Kandahar, Afghanistan.
