Poem 19: Ise

Ichiyūsai Kuniyoshiga I様様様 Common series of Kuniyoshi, Hiroshige and Kunisada about the famous collection of poems “Hyakunin isshu IIII” (hundred poets with a hundred poems). In the yellow striped field at the top, the 19th poem of the collection, written by the poet Ise Im (ca. 870-935; it is one of the 36 ubsterblichen of poetry = sanjūrokkasen Im 様 Im Im and 36 female immortals of poetry = nyōbō sanjūrokkasen). The picture shows Otani, the wife of Masaemon (Masaemon tsuma Otani). Under her clothes she wears her little child, of which only the head can be seen.
