By the time that he recorded his instrumental LP The Fiddling Senator in 1979, McLeod (02/28/1927-09/05/2011) was playing in the bluegrass style. However, many of the tunes on that recording were well known old time tunes such as “Billy in the Lowground,” “Ragtime Annie,” and “Lost Indian.” As a child, what he heard and what inspired him to want to play were old-time fiddlers. His uncle, M. L. Griffin, was an active dance fiddler playing for family gatherings and house dances when McLeod was young.
