THE RELATION BETWEEN DRAWING AND SCULPTURE THROUGH THE WORKS OF EDGAR DEGAS
View through CrossRef
The study initially presents the definitions of drawing and sculpture and mentions briefly the historical background of their denotations. The main concern of the study has been the exploration of the nature of their relation to one another. In this context, drawing attempts creating three dimentional impression on two dimentional surface, whereas sculpture actually creates three dimentional work using various materials. For this reason, it can be said that drawing constructs the basis of a three dimentional work, namely a sculpture, as it makes it easier to clarify forms on a surface. Masters like Amadeus Modigliani, Andre Derain, Matisse and Edgar Degas, who produced consistent works in more than one category in accordance with the understanding of their time, created both paintings and sculpture. The paper covers the study of the specimens of the works of Edgar Degas (paintings, drawings and sculptures). The research is based on general scanning model Keywords: Sculpture, Edgar Degas, drawing, painting
