Egyptian Female Genital “norm” and Female genital self-image

View through CrossRef
Introduction: Female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) is an old Egyptian norm. Its effect on genital self-image is not fully explored. Aim: To detect if FGM/C is still a “norm”, and to evaluate its impact on genital self-image. Methods: A cross-sectional survey involved 1952 women. Data recruited from personal interviews and examinations to determine the type of FGM/C. Results: There was a statistically non-significant difference in female genital self-image scores between type I, II FGM/C and non-FGM/C (P > 0.05). Conclusions: FGM/C is still a “norm” in the present. Key words: AVFGSI scale, AVFSFI score, Female genital mutilation/cutting, Female genital self-image, norm, Self-image.
