Effusion of a Pot of Porter, - or - Ministerial Conjurations for Supporting the WAR,/ as lately discover'd by D.r P-r, in the Froth & Fumes of his favorite Beverage.-\nLondon. Febr. 1800/ For long years the porter has always been sold at 3 pence halfpenny (each jug or pot)/ despite the price increase of all/ other foodstuffs, because the common people believe/ they cannot live without this drink. At last the uncommonly wet/ season has made barley and hops so expensive that even the pot porter/ costs a full 4 pence: Of this the opposition blames the Mini-/ stern: and because the Doctor Parr (of whom there is a/ small biographical account in this year's public characters/) is one of the boldest and most vehement Whigs so from/ his utterances, into which he breaks out chiefly at night, the one here/ is cited - . For the understanding of the motto on the tobacco pipe it is to be noted that D.r Parr together with the preacher Homer/ has published the Bellendemus de statu, to which P. wrote a preface, the Latinity of which is so admired in England that it is regarded as the masterpiece of this kind in modern times.
